The SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) were adopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015. They are a set of internationally-adopted goals consisting of 17 goals and 169 targets designed to solve social issues by 2030 and achieve "sustainable development.
At Yoshino Gypsum Co., Ltd, we are working to achieve these SDGs and realize a sustainable society through the activities of our entire corporate group.
We use environmentally friendly raw materials (mainly by-product gypsum and recycled newspapers, magazines, and cardboard) and actively collect recycled gypsum, thereby helping prevent air pollution, protect forest resources, and reduce waste.
We endorse and support activities to create a "Yoshino Gypsum Forest" with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions, preventing global warming, and protecting and nurturing forests.
By promoting the effective use of recycled gypsum, we can reduce the amount of natural gypsum mined, which is highly dependent on foreign sources, and save energy costs for marine and land transportation, thereby reducing the environmental impact in terms of both raw materials and energy.
By installing solar power generator on the roofs of plants buildings, distribution centers, company housing, and other facilities, as well as the premises of plants sites, we are working to combat climate change by supplying green energy equivalent to the annual consumption of about 4,000 ordinary households and reducing CO2 emissions by about 9,350 tons.
We have installed woody biomass boilers in four plants to produce process steam and electricity necessary for manufacturing, and are working to reduce CO2 emissions and combat climate change with green energy.
We also use RPF, tire chips, etc. as part of the fuel of our production processes in order to promote a shift away from fossil fuels, which are a cause of global warming.
We legally procure raw materials and promote the use of sustainable forest resources in an effort to conserve our environment and local communities.
We will visualize quantitative environmental information related to the entire life cycle of gypsum board products using calculation methods that ensure reliability and transparency, take further action to reduce our emissions, and fulfill our social responsibility to society.
(Registration of all 15 plants to this standard is scheduled to be completed by September 2021.)
We have expanded our business in Southeast Asia, and are contributing to local employment and industrial development to produce and sell products that are in harmony with the global environment through human resource development of local employees.
